I was breadboarding a jFet tester / matcher, 'cause I built a phase 45 and thought that it might sound even better with matched trannies.

So I started placing components on my breadboard, till it all came down to the transistor's sockets...I was out ou sockets!!!!...

I'm not kidding. I almost canibalized an orange squeezer fot that IC socket....then I realized what I was doing...

we all have days like this, don't we?  :?

Keko,
Hang in there.

I'm sure this sounds strange but every time I heat up a soldering iron I know it's going to be a bad day.

I think I'm one of the rare guys on this site in that I actually don't  like building pedals.
I love the pedals and all the variety of sounds etc.

I love the opportunity to learn pedal/amp based electronics from so many knowledgable people.

I like to see when a new take on an old design pops out and the community credits the source and shares the use of it.

I even like the occasional cat-fight which flares up. The people here are cool enough to back down before things get ridiculous.

All that, and just that I've met some sincerely nice people on this site is why I visit it.

But as for the actual building of pedals. I grudgingly do it. I don't like it and I frustrate myself with it more than anything.

Yeah, it's weird I know. Just wanted to share that with you.

That's surprising Clay. You just come here for the social aspect of it? Interesting... I agree that building pedals can be frustrating at times but I enjoy doing it most of the time... it's offboard wiring that I don't like

I do agree, the sociality and 'community feeling' is more prominent here than on most forums/message boards on the web today. And that's a good thing, we can all get along great here ;)

hang in there keko, remember Murphy's Law: If something can go wrong, it will go wrong ;)
I don't like Holland. Nobody has the transistors I want.

keko

thanks for the cheer's up.

I actually got the tester going...and after measuring several, several, several (about 30) trannies, I ended up using the fisrt pair I ever tryed...funny, aint' it?

and yes, this is definitively one of the best (if not THE best) places online EVER....and I've been online for ...wow.... about 12 year....geesh..I'm old.

Paul Perry (Frostwave)

If I read it right, what Clay (csj) is saying, is that he DOES build, but the part of the process of designing, building & using that he doesn't like, is the actual physical building.
If that is the case, I'm with him as well!! I'm as clumsy as an ox, cant remember where anything  is, or where it goes, takes forever. The happy part for me, is haing a pen in my hand, rather than a soldering iron!
But we are all different little snowflakes

That's what I meant, Paul. Strange though, the physical building is one of the best bits if you ask me. :) We're all different, thankfully.

I'm with you smoguz. I like the physical building part the best. I've got 10 or 15 built, working effects sitting in a cardboard box waiting to be boxed but I keep building more. I need to get together with someone who prefers the boxing part.  :)
