I have an ibanez TS9, how can i gut it and add a 3pdt switch?

I aslo have a vintage reissue rat. I would like to put them in one chassis with a clean blend pot like the voodoo labs sparkle drive, can someone help me out?

IIRC there is a hole underneath the Ibanez TS-9 logo, between the footswitch and the pots.  I've seen a few TS-9's TB'd this way.  You may need to drill the hole out a bit, but it's definitely there as is enough space for a switch.

Can't help with the other part though.

You misunderstood me, i'm putting it in a new box.

OK, sorry.  Find the two FETs on the board, IIRC there is a pair of 2SK30A's or similar that control the effect on and cancel.  Remove them both and jumper the two outside pads of one of them.  To find which one to jumper trace from the wiper of the level pot, the first FET you come to is the one to jumper.  Now your effect is always on and you can wire a 3PDT around it.

A Rat shouldn't need any modifications to the cicuit seeing as it uses a mechanical bypass rather than electronic.

And I still can't help you with the blend pot.  :D

Wow, that's all new to me. Accordign to kevin of tonejam, my TS9 is totally fried anyway, so i'm gonna have to build a new one

Totally fried?

I can't think of anything in the TS-9 that can't simply be de-soldered and replaced.  It's highly unlikely that you burned any resistors or capacitors or board traces (unless you plugged 120VAC from the wall outlet into it) so I recommend that you "refurbish" it using the existing PCB.  Put a socket in place of the op amp so you can experiment and also replace it easily if you manage to toast it somehow.  I'm on a kick with Analog Device's OP275 op amp for the TS-type right now.

Also, the transistors can safely be replaced with 2N5088, 5089, or probably 3904 or 4124 transistors.

The JFETs for switching are the ones most closely positioned to the diodes connected to the gate.  If you're putting it in a box anyway, then just remove those and leave the trace pads free.  Find which one leads to the input of the circuit, and which one is from the output and just solder a wire directly to the pad on that trace and connect that to your switch.

I just think that using the TS you already have will be easier than building a new one because I suspect it's just a few parts short of working.  Email me transmogrifox@yahoo.com if you want me to give you some trouble-shooting tips for finding what is fried on the board.

take care
