Substitute a 1N4001 with 1N4004?

Due to good ol' Murphy's Law my local electronics store only stocks 1N4004 diodes when the schematic I'm using (PWM) calls for a 1N4001.  Will a 4004 be ok?  What's different between the two?

the difference is in the "peak repetitive reverse voltage" spec.  The 4001 is rated at 50V, the 4004 at 400V.  Should be no difference to us pedal hackers!

As Nifty said, no difference in 99.99% of stompbox situations.
There is a difference in how much the two diodes leak reverse current (it's higher in 4001s).  The only circuit that I can think of where a difference might occur would be RG Keens Millenium 2 indicator.  There might be a delay in the LED lighting with a 4001 compared with a 4004(though I'm only speculating - the diffence may be thousandths or even millionths of a second).

Happy PWM building.
