Easyvibe Build Report

I've just about spread myself too thin, considering my abilities. I'm trying to design a 'Heavy Metal' type distortion, and in the middle of that, finish an Easyvibe. Enough whining,..not. I've got the "Bridge of Thighs" working, but not boxed.

I've got a few questions for those who built them before me. Does your 100ka pot for depth only work for half(the other half having killing the effect) it's rotation like mine does? I wonder if a different value(like 50ka) would be more efficient?

Also; where do you set your drive trim(1k), all the way up for max wobble, or down a bit for a more stable phase?

Mine sounds really good, though by the time I got it debugged, the kids were in bed, so I couldn't exactly crank it.

I think that is going to be my next build... I am wondering if I should try breadboarding it first, or go straight to perfboard... or try my first etching?  Which did you use?  Did you use an existing layout?

Johan

cool..
I made one too... set the depth to max and then adjust the 1k trimmer so that is only slightly overmodulating, then it should be fine
mine sounds amazing. John Hollis really did a great job with this one..

I used R.G.'s layout ( thank's R.G )but did it "Drill'n'draw"....glue the layout on the component side, drill the holes and then connect the dots on the cupperside with a sharpie...( I dont have a laserprinter, so I cant use p'n'p) work on the first attempt....oddly enough....

Well you could breadboard it of course, but it's a proven to work circuit, so I don't see the point unless you just want to see if you'd like it or something. I hired someone to make a PCB for it. It is troublesome, because some of the traces in R.G.'s layout are too close together. The fellow I asked to do it did the best he could & was not expensive, but I had to remove copper here & there to make it work. It was definitely worth it though. I can hardly wait to get home and tune it in & box it!

Been a long time crossing,..Bridge of Thighs.

i made the board for this one a long time ago, and still haven't had a chance to populate.  Looks pretty good, though, especially for my first board....of course i cant tell for sure if it'll work though.  Still has PnP blue on it :-D....

The problem was i needed to buy drill bits, and now i just haven't had the chance.  So...take that warning.  Get tiny drill bits in your parts order!  1/16" is too big for the layout thats available (tonepad ??)

...I was only crosseyed for a couple days after.
I would say use a PCB if possible, it can be perfed of course, but it's alot of work, and can get tight, a PCB will come out smaller. I had a time and a half debugging it.
my circuit works anyway I turn the pots, the taper is a little funny one at least one.
Yupp, gotta love that EZ Vibe, sounds just heavenly.
Convention creates following, following creates convention.

I have been wondering this for a while... I am pretty sure Jimi Hendrix put his Uni-Vibe in the middle of his wah and ff right, to settle the impedance problems.

If I was looking to reproduce this type of setup I wouldn't want to put true bypass on my univibe.  Will this little trick work if I don't put true bypass on the easy vibe too?

Thanks in advance

Torchy

IIRC the Univibe had a "Cancel" switch, rather than a bypass. I think it just took the lamp out of circuit so the signal passed thru the filter/phase stages unaffected. Could your non-true-bypass switch just take the LEDs out of circuit like that ?

Mine with a distortion following it sounds like the end of "Bridge of Sighs" when the wind is blowing if you're not playing, I think I may try some quieter opamps than TL062. I'm running mine with a wall wart anyways, so battery consumption's not an issue.

I think some people have had biasing issues with other opamps... some say that 072s work OK.. but it's hit or miss.

Mine with 062s is absolutely silent.

Mine's only making a massive amount of noise with a fuzz after it. I wonder if those blue resistors would've helped, I used an old greeny at the .22uF cause my nice new box style was too long. I dunno, mine sounds like one of those ghost recordings on Art Bells radio show. You can almost make out voices in there.
