Do you remember the Pygmy amp?

Sure, my brother bought one of those back in the day. He used it as a harp preamp in a band as well as the usual practice amp duties. We even used it with a 12v cassette machine while camping. I built a clone of it around 20 years ago and that one, too, is still in use. BTW this amp used the LM 380 chip, not 386.....it makes about a watt and a half.
More dynamics????? I'm playing as loud as I can!

I have the Pygmy that I built in 1983. It was a huge jump up from my Anderton/EPFM Headphone Amp.

Lately, I've been powering it with a 12V wall wart and using it to drive a 1-12 cabinet as my bench amp.

Not too long ago, when Radio Shack was liquidating their stock of raw drivers, I got a 5" woofer from them for about $5. It sounds pretty good in the Pygmy.

Other Paia's I still own are the Hot Lyx Sustain and Gator Gate/Swell.

Jensen "Mod" series has a good 6 inch speaker, probably perfect for this kind of thing.  The magnet is proportionally speaking...HUGE :)

Now we're going somewhere...

I have a nice speaker that I kept aside for that kind of project, ... and a LM380.

I just stopped when I passed in front of a 911 store (a pawnshop), and here is what they had to sell.

10W on batteries, 15W on a wallwart.

Cleaner than a Pignose, but it's not really a problem   I can take care of that. It distorts easily with hot pickups, but I'm not sure yet if it sounds good.

The guy who wrote the first review seems to like it...

I wonder if I can find the schematic somewhere. Didn't find it yet.
