As with anything in small quantity..... buying in bulk is where you save most of your money. If I need three 2N5088s, I'll get a bag of 100.

Look kool with big tin top hats.
 I got them free with this curbed monitor.
 They work in most all NPN circuits, except maybe high gain/low noise, I measure the Hfe's around 140-204...soundum goodum, like 3904's or similar.
