Sroll down to discontinued section and y'all find some useful circuits. Look at the index in each manual to see if the circuit is included.

That acoustic preamp looked interesting, but those proprietary ICs can be a real downer.

Actually, JRC/NJM make a bunch of those chips.  I'm pleasantly surprised by how feasible it is to get BBE-on-a-chip.  Check this listing: http://www.njr.co.jp/e05/de.html  Lots and lots of drool-worthy datasheets.

Aha, thanks, Mark, that makes it a lot more interesting.  But the schematic, at least for the acoustic preamp, does not give the part number for the BBE chip, so we're not quite there yet.  Still, even without the BBE part, it's a useful circuit--I like the parametrric eq and the jfet input buffer, and it ought to be really easy to convert the "gain" part of the circuit to an input mixer for, say, condenser mike and magnetic pickup, in addition to piezo.

I had a look at the data sheet for this, and about half way down it says that a licence is required before the NJM can be purchased from New Japan Radio Co Ltd - so wonder how we can get round that one?

Yep they are stiff about those chips. Mouser actually carries the BBE chips but you have to do a search on their web page for them - they don't advertise. And don't bother to try. They don't stock them and when you try and order them anyway they'll tell you politely that you're not allowed to have them. :? I tried man ... I tried.

You can, however, get the schematics from the BBE website and then look up the patent and find out what makes it tick.

It looks like four NE5532s and a CA3280 would get you the same thing.

I think it's mainly a noise gate for higher frequencies but there is also supposed to be some phase shift mojo in there.

I have a BBE rack processor and it's been gathering dust for several years now. The resulting sound was never what I considered anything special. I would rather just use a good EQ to shape my sound.

Just my 2 cents.

Take care,
