Found this cool site for John Lee Hooker Jr.. He does Daddy's Boom Boom and there is a very interesting effect on the bass, especially in a blues context.

sounds like octave fuzz. Very fuzzy, but can't tell if its octave or not.

That's a cool bass sound. I don't hear any octave. But along with the fuzz, I do hear a little bit of modulation, envelope follower... maybe it's something like a Tube Zipper with a good bit of clean signal blended in???

it's almost micro-synthy... but there's something about the sound that I haven't gotten out of my micro synth.

I'd even hazard a guess that it's one of those boss bass synths.. or an akai deep impact.

very cool!

“It also sounded something like the movement of furniture, which He
hadn't even created yet, and He was not so pleased.” God (aka Tony Levin)

You know I was reading that book out about the music gear of the Beatles (the official book endorsed by whats left of the group), and it stated that Paul used a Tonebender fuzz on his bass.  Also mentioned George and John using a Grey fuzzface.  Also mentioned liberal use of the tonebender on other things.
