I bought some LM741 Opamps, but they are so tiny!

Am I buying the wrong brand? I bought these from Mouser and the part number is: 511-UA741CD. These things look near impossible to work with.  They certainly aren't big enough to breadboard them.  Is there a brand that is a bit larger?

Also, there is no semi-circle cut away indicating which end is which.  How can I tell?  I will likely put them on their back like a bug on some proto board, but I want to be sure which end is up before I try.

thanks

You got suface mount chips.

ST/SO-8/SMD are all abbreviations to avoid...

There's not much you can do except get new ones, really.  You could get some of those SMD boards, where you solder it onto a small board and then there are pins on either side to make it DIP-ish, but that's WAY too much work for such a common and cheap chip.  Futurlec sells them for a quarter, which is about as much as the ones you ordered anyways.

I thought I screwed up... Hey, I think some of those cheap op-amps you are looking at would be a good deal.  Could I use those to make the Sooper feedback looper?

im not sure if you live in the States, but if you wanna experiment, the Rat Shack still stocks 741's.  a bit pricey at about a buck a piece, but you'll save shipping.

Oui oui... in fact, these op amps are much higher quality than the 741's... I try to stay away from 741's in most cases.

Just throw them away and try to get 511-UA741CN instead.
When you order from Mouser, make sure you order DIP-8 ICs  rather than SO-8. DIP format are the regular types that'll fit in breadboards.
