Are there any subs for MPSA13's that I can use? I'm building the Whisker Biscuit from Runoffgroove.com and need two of them but can't seem to find them locally. Too lazy to order them online, so if I could sub them them would be cool.

Suggestions?

David

Oh, you can sub them all right.  Problem is, the sub comes from those robber barons over at NTE.  It costs about 10 times as much as the MPSA13.  Order from the 'Bear and save yourself some growling...

From the cross-reference database ...

MPSA12
MPSA14
ECG46
ECG172A
2SC982
2SC1472K
2N5525
2N5306

All good subs

You can use two common transistors wired like in the darlington transistor simbol.

YEEESH!!! I was looking for the same thing. The MPSA13 is only like 40 cents, and the NTE replacement is $4.36. I wonder why NTE has these extraordinarily crappy prices?

It's the same reason milk and eggs are more expensive at convenience stores than grocery stores, and much more expensive at grocery stores than from the farmer. They provide a convenience, and people will pay for that. It's much faster to have milk in 5 minutes than making a trip out to the country. It's worth the extra money to some people.

Let's think about it from the other direction: if *you* found you could sell one MPSA13 a week for $4.36 and ten a week at $0.40, which would you do?

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.
