Antique Radio site, there you'll find a lot of info, and if you can read everything there, your sure to be gray headed by the time you finish.

Hmmm.....

If I built a crystal reciever, then stuck a hifi valve amp on the end of it, would that work?

It will work, but not as well as if you did it in 1930. Because then, there was relatively little noise from electrical machinery etc and few radio stations nearby to the one you wnated to tune in to. Today you get a huge mess of noise & a pile of stations all at the same time, if you live in the city.
But by all means build a RF set! you will learn lots!!

Ge_Whiz

You'll need a good antenna and earth for a crystal set. The Xtal Set Society (XSS) at //www.midnightscience.com does a one-tube regenerative radio set, which will still need an amp, but this could be an IC design. Mike Peebles designed these sets, so will give good advice and can help with parts.

Those sites are helpful, but all those schematics use really OLD tubes. Isn't there a radio that uses a commonly availible tubes, like a 12AX7 or something.....?

Ge_Whiz

Well, the 12AX7 is an audio valve, not intended for RF work. You'll find the 1T4 much easier (and safer) to use, and at about $4...

Sorry, my mistake - $2.95. From the XSS, like I told ya. Ignore the out-of-date websites - e-mail them.
