let me know if im wrong but i thought the dot on an ic indicated pin 1. the pin out of the ic on the schematic for the orange squeezer on tonepad doesnt match the pin out on the parts layout.

i think either im wrong or no one checks the schematics

if someone who has built this can help me that would be great.

also the ic is a 4558 but im going to use a TL072. ive been told its a good substitute. i just dont know if it makes a difference to the pin out.

The TP layout uses the other side of the opamp.

As for pinouts: I'm sure that there is a dual opamp out there that doesn't have the standardized pinout, but I haven't been able to find it.  The TLO72 will function perfectly.

with the TL072 should i follow the schematic or the parts layout

Use the parts layout - the numbering is wrong on the schematic is all. As Travis said, the other side of the dual opamp is used, so pin 3 is actually 5, pin 2 is 6 and pin 1 is 7. The unused op-amp is shorted & grounded.
