i found i have too many tubes lying around and i dont' even like storing them in their boxes [i dont' have enough boxes anyway] plus i like to see what i have to order and such.

so after watching the theremin video i saw he had a nifty little tube rack, since i suck at working with wood and for the amount of tubes i have there is now way i am going to drill all those holes without a drill press i did the next best thing.

got some pvc pipe in various sizes  and a 1/2 inch thick pice of panneling cut it up and made my own tube holder.

i am getting someone to take a picture for me but heres a diy drawn guide to it for everyone.

hope this helps some people like myself who are trying to get organized.

and again of course you can make it any size you wish.  i have multiple 12ax7 types so i mainly made mine fit those but i have a lot of the diode tubes pentodes and such that are quite skinny as well as power tubes that are quite fat so i made two of these with different sized pvc pipe.  all in all theres about a 100 slots on the current one as soon as it gets done drying.

i used hot glue on the first one.  for the second one i used contact cement and i counter sunk the pvc in the wood for extra security.

i am striving to acomplish as much paul as i do normally all the while being as neat as you.  so far i am failing misurbly. lol

however since i got a bunch of plexiglass in i have made like 5 tool holders so my bench looks a lot better, well desk 1 does desk two is piled up three feet [i am quite serious on that matter] and table no.1 is a little over flowed right now. i am going to try to get some pics all we have now is a little crappy camera and it does really lofi images and isnt' responding to the usb port right now.

hey paul question is that a muffin tin that is modified to hold stuff???

Paul Marossy

lightnin'-

I doesn't always look that neat. When I am in the middle of a project, it can be quite messy. But I always clean up after I am done and I always put things in the same place so I don't have to hunt around for things. (I HATE that)

Ansil-
Actually, that is some sort of pencil holder thingie that used to sit on a drafting board. Each compartment has a different depth, so you can store long tools and shorter ones, and they all stick out about the same distance. I suppose you could make something like that out of a muffin tin, huh?

Ansil

yeah i looked at it a little more closely and realized that it wasn't a muffin tin. but yeah it could be done.  i have always been a fan of your organization man. and i reallly dig your website.  quetsion  wasnt' it you that did the diy tube coolers???  i thought it was on your site. but i coudnt' find it. anymore. unless i missed it or was just wrong anyway. lol

so what do all of you use for your tube holders?  and anyone need any of tthe freakin diode tubes.. i have way too many and i dont' use them.

Paul Marossy

Glad you like my website ansil. :)
Yeah, I'm the one with the DIY tube coolers. It's under the "Guitar Amps" section. The guy from PEARL wrote me and told me why my tube coolers had some problems, and I incorporated that stuff into the webpage.

Ansil

hey paul have yo uhad a chance to try a 6cg7 in your firefly yet???

also interesting i am glad to see the edit. however i still think there maybe a way to do that but then again if i get a transmission from space i will pass it alont to everyone.

Paul Marossy

Ansil, you are a crack up. Those tube coolers would work to an extent if the inside surfaces are painted black. At the very least, it could probably double the life of the tube.

Ansil

cooking oil..  industrial grade.

help keep it cool drop the whole amp in it.  :D  its non conductive.

actualy my buisiness partner calls me his personal lunatic lol well i guess thats about right. i built a nice cattle prod for my friend the other day and i was walking down the street with it.  [granted it looks like a bad homebrew metal detector with the big box for the guts on the side of it. but its a 4ft pvc section with a cap on one end with two nails sticking out of it. and a camera flash supply.]  also i may have found a stumbling block in the tube powersupply from a camera flash circuit  i think i may have hit on something.

so anyway i am walking down the street with this and i am 500 feet from the police station.  i will leave it at that.  :D

Personal lunatic! I love it!
That gave me a good chuckle.  I needed one this morning. 8)
