I  just  purchased (on Ebay) a pair of germanium PNP nkt214 transistors  for  a  fuzz  face  project.  I  emailed  the  seller  a  bunch  of  times  in  order  to  get  the  pinout  information  specific  to  these  transistors,  but  he has  never  answered  me.  Maybe  it's  a  stupid  question,  but  I'm  new  to  hobby  and  just  don't  know  how  to  find  the  info.  I  followed  the  FAQ   link  to "nteinc"  but  no  datasheet  was  there. The  leads  on  the  bottom  of  the  can  are  in  a  triangle  formation  and  there's  a  red  dot  next  to  one  of  them.  I  would  sincerely  appreciate  any  help  and  thanks  for  your  time.

The NTE cross match is the NTE158

That doesn't necessarily mean yours has the same pinout.

Usually the red dot is the collector. The base is in the middle, and the emitter is the opposite end.

Is  this  any  type  of  test  or  measurement  with  a  meter  that  would  tell  me  something  definite?

If you have a DMM that tests for hfe, test the transistor under pnp. Switch leads until the reading appears the most normal. The reading itself will not be accurate because a DMM won't take a Ge's leakage into account. If your DMM doesn't measure hfe, use the method below.

Thanks  guys!!  Looks  like I  have  a  bunch  of  good  info  to  chew  on.  Wish  me  luck  and  thanks again!
