ISO this nasty fuzz tone....

I heard the 3rd track on Metallica's latest CD. I think it's called "Some Kinda Monster". Anyway, there is this absolutely NASTY fuzz on the intro with these abrupt decays with crackle. Sorta lo-fi too. Does anyone know what project to build to get this sound?

Ahh, the Zvex. I also hear the Mammoth has great fuzz tones for guitar even though it is a bass fuzz. Thanks CD but I was thinking more along the lines of a DIY or a mod of an existing diy.
