I´m building the mxr gate from tonepad but can´t find 2N5952 here in Portugal so i´m using BF410C but can´t get it to work, is this a valid replacement transistor or do i have to use 2N5952?

Hi.  Yes, it should work.  The orientation is the same as shown on the tonepad overlay.  However, JFETs are highly variable components and you might need to try 2 or 3.  Otherwise, make and audio probe (search the forum for how to make one if you don't have one) and trace the signal into the circuit and through.

good luck

I´ll try to debug it.

Hi, I had the same problem with mine. I got hold of the right JFET and the cuircuit started working.
