Hey i was wondering if this tyco project from GGG meaning its a negitve ground setup is ok as far as npn and pnp on one circuit goes? The parts i have listed are the ones i am questioning??? I was also wondering if the mouser audio transformer should be Mouser 42TM011 not 42TM001. Thanks Alot, for your guys help.

q1- pnp 2N5087
q2- npn 2N5088
q-3 npn 2N5088

2 1N34A     Ge 75PRV .005A NTE

4.7m carbon film resistors

42TM001     1.730     8.65
XFMR OUT 500CT/8CT
Xicon EI-19 Audio Transformers

Looks like you have the right part #'s, but the transiformer, not sure, you might have one there that works...correct me if I'm wrong, but the GGG notes a M022 tranny, you could note differences in the specs of the Data sheets, I'm not real good with transformers, but to say I've used RS and Mouser transformers and gotten Octave with them.
I'd double check the PnP's and nPn's, for Q1 2 and 3, I havent' referenced the schematic for this post.
Whoops, I looked and it's a 42TU011 on the schematic. Q1's emitter 'north' is PnP.

so would it be wise to use all npn or all pnp? has anyone else who has done this box used a pnp and a npn.I just ordered from mouser a 42TM011 and 42TM022 im going to try out both? let me know,Thanks.

>>>The first transistor needs to be e PNP. Qs 2 and 3 are npn.
We;re talking about the Tycho Schematic from GGG, Neg ground.
I remember using a M022 from mouser, and seeing that as the one used, but when I look at GGG's Tycho Schem today, I see 42TU011...[?]...I think the M022 works in that circuit...that's what I've been using.

Hi.  There's no reason why you can't use PNPs in a neg ground circuit.  They'll usually have the emitter connected to the +ve rail of the power supply.  And mixing and matching is not an issue either - they'll just be oriented differently.

Build it like this for negative ground operation and it'll work great with all those other negative ground pedals (and sound exactly the same as it would if built as the original positive ground):

Edit:  Forgot to mention that I changed the Volume pot from 500KA to 100KA to let some more highs out.

yea damn i see you used 2n4401's for q2 and q3 i just ordered some 2n5088 will these work or should i get some of those 2n4401's, thanks.

2N5088 will work fine.  I used the 2N4401 because I got a great deal of a bag full of em on eBay  :D  I used 2N5088 for my first negative ground Tyco build and it sounded great.

phillip, whats the difference between these 2 or 3 mentioned transformers ,also what exactly does it do in this application. educate me

I haven't heard any difference between the 42TM022 and the 42TU011...I think some of their specs are slighly different and the 42TU011 is a little larger, but they both sound the same.

Just follow the Schematic and BOM for the GGG project...

My opinion is that it's a revision of the original circuit to work with positive power.  There's the original schematic (i.e. negative power) floating around somewhere, maybe at GGG.

NO I'm thinking of pnp and npn fuzzes at AMZ.
Passive sucks.
