Hi there-

I'm trying to get a parts list together for a Fullclone2 I want to build for myself (link to schematic below), but the schematic I have is fuzzy.  Also, I'm new to electronics, there are a couple items that I don't know what the heck they are.  I want to purchase all the components necessary and begin building, my list is almost complete....

First off, J1 through J13.  On my schematic, they just look like black squares.  What are these?

U1A, U1B, and U1C.  Not sure what these are either, they look like triangles with some numbers inside.

R4 and R11 are resistors, but are on the schematic as 470 and 220 ohms respectively.  Every other resistor is in the thousands of ohms.  Am I missing something?

Aside from the electronic components in the schematic, I was going to buy a Hammond 1590BB box, one TPDT switch, one DPDT switch, 2 1/4" jacks.  Anything else?

Thanks for any help all you pros can provide.  I know what it's like to deal with a newbie with too many questions, hopefully I'll catch on quick though.

Somebody posted this a while back, it might be clearer.

Link doesn't work...

Even if the schematic were not so fuzzy, my electronics knowledge is...  Any tips on what the unidentified items are?

Thanks for your help.

links work for me!

QuoteJ1 through J13. On my schematic, they just look like black squares. What are these?

J is a common designator for connectors (plugs and sockets etc.) In this case, it looks to me as if they are designating pads on the PCB to which wires are soldered which in turn connect to the connectors. For instance, J10 J11 and J12 are the three points at which the volume pot should be connected. Thus, you'd solder three pieces of wire to these points, and then solder them to the volume pot.

QuoteU1A, U1B, and U1C. Not sure what these are either, they look like triangles with some numbers inside.

Ah, a true Greenhorn I see! Ok, these are symbols for operational amplifiers or op amps. U is a common designator for ICs (Integrated Circuits). The numbers relate to the pins of the IC. The power connections to the op amps are generally assumed but not shown on the schematic. Data sheets for the ICs can usually be easily obtained via google. In this case the op amp is not specified, but on the diagram RDV posted they specify 4558s. (found by googling "4558.pdf")

You are probably going to want to have a hunt around this sites FAQs and beginner pages. There's a whole stack of info out there for beginners. The site you linked to also has a beginners page.

QuoteAm I missing something?

No, those resistors are quite normal.

QuoteAnything else?

9V battery clip, I assume you have solder, hook up wire, some perf board or similar, bezels to mount the LEDs...

There is an art in itself in translating the scematic to a useable PCB layout. Are you sure you're up to this task? Perhaps it would be advisable to begin with Arons beginner project? Have you checked out the Beginner Project forum?

Thanks very much.

I think my Adobe version didn't like the file.

Yes, I'm a greenhorn.  I was going to try that beginners project as well (in fact, I'll probably do it first), but I thought about ordering all the parts at once to save time and costs.  I know I wanted to make myself a version of this pedal, I might also try an all tube distortion as well.  Anyhow, I very much appreciate the assistance.

Just use "Save Target As", I had to, but it will work then after you download it.
