So you're using the photodiode as a constant current source and modulting it?  Why not just use a transitor constant current source then?  No LED current, easier to set up.

You can still just use a resistor Colin.  If you have an LFO you know what the output swing is going to be, so you can accurately set current to the Iabc pin by using a suitable resistor.  Linear response, simple as that...

Yep, you could use a tranny, too.  Or the LFO/resistor.  I was just letting my mind wander when reading about photodiodes.  In the scheme of things they make just as much sense...
