Anyone know where to get old data sheets from RCA???
The IC's are the old can type with RCA 7-7141 & 7941 marked on top, the box had CA3080 family on it. If anyone knows where to get the data sheet or can confirm that these are in fact CA3080 IC's please let me know.

I found a place I can get 3 or 4 hundred of them for around $0.50 ea.

Thank's RDV, I found that one already, these are alot older I think. The  specs. may be similar though! Seems that RCA at least the components devision has been sold and the Co. that bought them was sold etc. etc. The obsolete Data sheets were supposedly copied and stored somewhere sometime and thats about all the info I was able to find on Google.

According to the data sheet I have here, if you look at the can from the top, with the tab at the 12 o'clock position, then..

the tab is pin 8, and the rest of the pins number ANTICLOCKWISE.
And, the pins correspond exactly to the pins on the DIP 3080.

Which means the tab pin is the not-connected pin.

WARNING WARNING the metal case is connected to V- !!!! who would have expected that???

electronically identical to all the other 3080s.

Thanks, guys!

I figured maybe the pinout was the same because they are pre bent into the Dip configuration. Case to V- that is a surprise I wonder what purpose
that serves.

So these should work ok for the EH Smallstone I've been wanting to build!

Thanks again

It's easier to fit a metal can into a dip socket than fit a dip package into a round metal can socket.

If it turns out that they are house numbered 3080's, I would not mind having a few for a couple old synths I have laying around.

I hope you will please keep us posted.

Thanks,
Dan

Update: I couldn't verify that these were house numberd CA3080's so I decided to build a Ross compressor. It sounds great! Actually better with the can type than with the newer CA3080E.

I used the Tonepad schematic http://www.tonepad.com/getFile.asp?id=9
subbed 2N5088's for the 2N3904's. With the 3080E it sounded somewhat distorted not bad but sort of like a higher gain opamp overdrive. The older can type had a much smoother sound and no distortion.

I ran it bare only jacks and pots no switching and not installed in a box. With the 3080E it had alot of RF noise, (I get a lot of that anyway living a few hundred yards from a radio tower) RF seemed to be about half with the can and even though it appears that the case is connected to pin 4 (V-) it had even less RF interference if I physicaly grounded the case. I'm sure if I get it in a box all the noise will be gone!!!

Probably will be a week or two before I can get back to the surpluss store to see if they still have them, I'm sure they will because they didn't know what they were either! I'll post a link to their site when I find out for sure.

One other note out of the 6 I bought 1 was bad, not to shabby considering these were made in the late 60's early 70's

Here are some CA3080 app. notes if anyone's interested. http://www.intersil.com/data/an/an6668.pdf
