I was searching arround the internet yesterday checking out the various kits available. Seems to be alot of choices out there.

Anyone here Diy an amp kit? Just wanted to see what people have built and what you think of it.

To me, it looks like the hardest thing to do would be the cabinet. Never done any wood working. Guess you could buy the cab but that wouldn't be as fun.

many many have done it and got great results.

I've only boughten the tweed deluxe cab from Mission. good work. never bought a complete kit, but they're priced so low there and other places (ceriatone, etc) that its almost more worth it to pay one shipping fee and get it all complete.

I build SS amps for friends and such using Randy Slone's designs, you can purchase kits of his designs as well from //www.sealelectronics.com... extremely high quality so a little more $$$ but worth it I think.

Out of curiousity would any of these DIY kits be good for a bass?  I scanned them, the only one that I can tell off hand is for bass is the fender bassman kit.

Did you get the Spitfire or the Lightning?

Spitfire as the head enclosure I have is small . Nik custom made me a chassis that fit perfectly although I think he doesn't do custom chassis anymore.

Lots of Fender and Marshall kits. Why isn't there any ampeg stuff arround? I'd love to see some SVT style kits. Or is that just to complex?

On some amps, you just have to get a schematic and build it yourself. I kind of admire guys who build something like a Twin Reverb circuit from scratch. That's kind of an intense circuit with two channels, tube reverb and vibrato...

On a related note, is it a major challenge to build an amp with self-biasing for different tubes? (Univalve, Emery, Groove Tubes Single)

What precautions, designs and circuitry is necessary to be able to go from a rather weak EL-84 to a ballsy KT-88?
