Can someone please explain to me how the CMOS 555 is used?
Even with the Datasheet beside me I cant figure out why it is used that way.

And why are the Gain-pins (pin 1 and 8 ) in the 386-chip shorted?
In the examples in the datasheet they always use an capacitor between pin 1 and 8.

The CMOS 555 is used as a oscillator. It oscillates when the input waveform makes a positive excursion high enough to enable pin 4.

One the 386, the cap between pins 1 and 8 is eliminated simply because it isn't actually needed to get the job done.
