While bringing a non functioning printer to the local dumpster i noticed a cardboard box with an empy Philips tube box on top of a lot of junk.Looking closer i saw a bunch of resistors. This can`t be true i thought and asked the guy at the counter if i could take the box with me.No,he said, but i won`t look if you do.So i did.At home it appeared to be the leftovers from a local repair shop.1 Siemens EL34 turned up,then 2 Philips/Mullard EL34`s and a few more tubes i do not know, yet.
I ended up spending the rest of the afternoon unwrapping a huge amount of transistors, caps and resistors of all values and types.
A few days ago i thought this hobby was maybe a bit too expensive, maybe he was listening

I got lucky that way about a month ago. I got to go into our ITs "obsolete" stock. Anymore, they rarely repair a board with discretes, so they had drawers full of stuff that they hadn't used for years. I had prepared by cross referencing a bunch of NTE/CGE part numbers to common stuff that we used. It was like going to WalMart. Great find!
