Hi, I'm building a tube preamp for a friend to save him from shelling out hundreds on a Mesa V-Twin, and I wanted to give it the "industrial" look that the V-Twin has with its diamond plating.  I had seen small sheets of this at my local giant home improvement store (Lowe's), but never checked the price.  I did this time, and WOW- $30(US) for a sheet of 12"x18".  Even if I wasn't a cheapskate, I think this would be too much.

It doesn't necessarily have to be metal- someone posted a new build about a week ago with a plastic sheet of diamond plate, but I think they were in the UK.  Any Yanks know where to get some of this at a good price?

There is diamond plate formica too, believe it or not. For the real stuff I would check at an off road 4 wheel drive shop, lots of guys panel their jeeps with it. They may have scraps too small to be useful for them.

Hi Alex, it was me who posted up the plastic "diamond plate" sample, its just regular "sticky backed plastic" looks cool but you can damage it if you poke it hard, with your thunbnail or whatever.
I got mine from a big hardware store, its a German company "Alkor" the foil is called "Kleber Folie" I think.

Good luck anyways,
Marty.

Thanks for the responses guys, I'll check out your suggestions.  My brother is really into modifying his Jeep, I'll see if he can recommend something.  Thanks!

saw some at Sears hardware, if there's one near you.
Didn't notice the thickness though.

If you live near a large city, there should be some steel/aluminum suppliers who can sell this over the counter, by the foot. There is also regular steel diamond plate...you'd need to paint it, but it's less than half the price of aluminum.

In my area (Southern California) you can get diamond plate at Orchard Supply Hardware, which is a national chain, and possibly at Lowe's Home Improvement or Home Depot.

You can get diamond plate at any metal fabricator and some welding shops.  Call around.  I don't know about getting it online, shipping might be expensive.

If you're going to bend it into shape, make a template out of cardboard and take the measurements.  Then when you go to the shop to get it they can bend it for you right there with a brake.  You can make sure it's perfect before you leave.

That looks pretty cool...you can even request custom sizes and they price it by the square inch!

My mind is suddenly reeling with stuff to diamond plate.

Anyone have good links to diamond-plated pedals?

I got a good deal on some diamond plate aluminum from this place:

I also noticed that they sell the diamond plate sticker sheets there too.

FWIW, I've seen it at Home Depot and ACE Hardware.
