Upgrading (behringer) stuff

So, in the past few months I've gotten some electronical skills. I still don't know alot of stuff, but I've successfully build a Rebote 2 (which is the easiest thing to build) and I've modded some stuff. Now arises my next question:

I have a small home studio, with only 1, single channel mic preamp. A behinger mic100, for the simple reason that it was the cheapest thing I could get. I'm pretty sure the tube does next to nothing, but at least the thing works. I've opened it up a while ago, and it looks very simple, nothing more complex than a decent FX pedal. Could possibly make this thing (alot) better buy replacing some/all the parts? I know the design is not the worst, because the art tube mp is basicly the same thing, but better.

I don't have a schem or anything, but I don't think I'll need it either. All I really want to know is this: would replacing parts actually make it sound better? I'm not going after "fatness" "tube mojo" or anything like that. Just more linear and less "ouch, that sounds like a behringer..."

input transformer... best: Lundahl!
(if it uses one...)

Does it make sense to put a $60-$100 transformer (Lundahl) in a $49 Mic Pre?  Also, Don't rule out a tube swap if you haven't tried it. A lower gain type might be what  you're looking for (12AT7, 5751 maybe). It won't make a  silk purse out of a sow's ear, but it might  be an improvement.

I am indeed not looking for a 100 buck upgrade. A did think a tube replacement might help, but I don't think that's gonna make so much difference. I guess it's time to start saving up for a new preamp.
