Should/Can I trace out my Mini Q-tron?

Hi all!

This thought was on my mind, but didn't know if it was right. Also, does EH usually do like circuit spoofing (eg. fake components/fake traces etc..)?

Thanks,

Nish

Of course you can do it - it's yours is it not?

yes, but is it right to distribute the schematic after I'm done...like post it on a big site or make a pcb layour (my own design of course,etc...)?

thanks,

Nish

actually...when I look at the board right now....I see that there is a mutron like Octocoupler....1 led/2photocell (or is it the other way around...). Seems like EH has done a good job....It's just those damn pots...I had this pedal in my junk pile, as the pots all snapped at the leads, and was too lazy to fix it...(didn't use this pedal too much).

I'll rebox it after tracing it, and maybe even mothball the board and make a mutron III.

Now could someone answer my question about the fake components/circuit spoofing?

hehehe, even heard rumours, that manufacturers put in
fake tubes...

Extra parts, even bogus, cost money.
EH made/makes *lots* of stuff.
*Usually*, only BooTeek mfgs put in fake parts.
They usually charge up the wazoo 4 the pedal, anyway,
so their "extra" parts costs R covered.
The "easiest" way 2 "protect" your BooTeek circuit,
is to remove the nomenclature from the ics.
Another way, also, very common, put a hard 2 remove
epoxy or other hardening opaque substance over the
top of the components *after* U sanded the numbers off.
Double whammy!
EH has no need to do this.

will do!

Umm....there appears to be a slight problem.....I kinda slice all the wires going off the board....They have a small bit of wire coming outa the board, so I can still so the color, but I don't know how that relates to the part...

Does anyone else have a EH mini Q tron? if so, could someone tell me where all these wires go?

Tracing will be no real problem. From What I can see, It has the a single LED/dual LDR thing: HTV P873-13, then a "OK" after after it. It also has 3 dual opamps (?) (TLC2262CP....). In fact, It seems all the missing controls are either switches, or pots that are added with no extra components!

i say make it! Layout in any way- yours/theres.

I've got a mini Q tron in perfect shape, I might be able to help out.

I modded it so it now has a volume control aswell (it slightly boosted when on, so I reduced the volume a little bit. Now it's exactly the same level). Great filter, in my opinion, and runs on 9v (unlike the Mutron for example).

an ethical question, that is...

could be answered by asking the designer, Mr. Mike Beigel himself
(who can be contacted with the help of following links):
http://diystompboxes.com/sboxforum/viewtopic.php?t=28074&highlight=mutron,
or E-H.

(if you want, I`ll ask Mr. M. Matthews next time we meet    - will take a little time, though - ).

sir_modulus

Mike designed this? (wouldn't of been surprised if you designed it....you are the father of the pulsar! :D (not to mention all of em tube pedals!)). Ya, I'll trace out the schematic sometime soon, but I don't think I'll trace out a layout....this one kinda sucks...badly (it's HUGE for the # of parts, and it uses PCB mount pots/switch...).Anywhoo, as I said, it looks very similar to the Neutron, so I'll take a bit of time, and add all the extra neutron controls, and keep it running of a single battery.

Cheers,

Nish
