Phillips site does about everything but change the ic. I was thinking about changing that too- adding a socket and trying a few diff ones out but was wondering what would work as well as what may sound better?

I use the NJM5532L in DS-1's, sounds nice, definately more quiet too. Every DS-1 I've done had the BA728N IC in it. The 5532 seems to jive nicely with the ckt and mods. One thing though, to my ears, the 5532 seems to round the treble a bit. Maybe it's just me, but I might try lowering the value of the pf smoothing cap across the diodes on the next one. Come to think of it, the 5532 does the same thing in the TS, and it's my favorite IC for that ckt. Try it and let me know what you think. Otherwise, I think you'll like what it sounds like. I think it brings clarity to the rest of the mods.

One tip: the IC sits below the input jack. When you use a strip socket to mount the IC, it will hit the jack when you put the pcb in the final assembled position. I had to rotate the jack slightly, and bend the IC pins slightly so the board would seat fully. On the next pedal, I took a deep breath, and just soldered the IC directly in. It's either that or take a chance of the socket's solder joints getting cracked from the stress of the IC resting against the jack body at a slight angle.
