trimmer for different transistors?

Sorry if this is a knucklehead question, but would changing the 6.8k resistor to say, a 10k trimmer, allow me to try different transistors and keep the output at 4.5v?  I'm pretty keen to try mosfets and germaniums in place of the PNP transistors.

I think that's a safe bet...I don't remember it going above 10k when testing different transistors, with Ge's I think it even went down to 2k or so. So the trimpot should work.
