I hate to be so picky about this layout but I notice that the drawing you gave for me and the one in response to "mat" back a bit, Are alot different  as far as the board population. I guess that everything ends up going to the same place but I just wondered if this means anything or just subjective to the wayeach indiv. reads the schematic??
I'm having some trouble getting this to 'fire Up'

if you notice, the one i sent in response to mat was torchy's stripboard layout, simply because thats the layout mat was using....

all the signal paths are the same...the same circuit can be laid out many different ways...i dont use "either" of the layouts on this thread...mines more compact...but the layout posted above is easier for beginners to follow, simply because the board matches the schematic, if you were to lay a copy of the schemo on perfboard.

thanks that;s what I figured.... where is the schematic found by the way
WELL I did get a signal in both the on and Off positions but the problem I have now is that the Effect signal is very low volume and the Pots have almost no effect on the signal..I say almost because the vol. pot actuall does have only the slightest drop in volume , sort of an out of phase , in the middle of the pot(using a 250k) and the volume goes back to the normal "low" volume at both ends of the taper. WEIRD!!
I'll go over the connections on the board again but if you have an idea what this sounds like , I'd appreciate any input.  the trimpot also seems to have no effect but I'm not sure of it's purpose anyhow!

I take that part back about the TRIM  :oops: , It does cut the signal off when turned all the way , but there isn't really a gradual return to full volume or anything as it's turned back up.

What does the voltage of the Jfet 'say' about the pot a V/R as you turn it? Does it jump past the target voltage ~4.5V ?

Not quite sure I know what your meaning. If you want me to check the transistor legs for vltge as I turn the trimptt OR  if I 'm supposed o measure the trimpot s legs ? I have tried to check the JFET legs thought and as I said , I get mostly NOTHING when I read the D/S/G legs  as it  is  Can someone point out what MAY be wrong

Ok , here's what I have , I couldn't measure the voltage that Pete was asking about but I can tell you this:
I DO have signal both bypass and effected, the Volume control works as it should , though the effected signal IS lower than the bypassed... The Gain Control does nothing that I can tell, and the 100k trim pot, when turned from on to off gives a loud crack/pop right before cutting the signal completely at the off position.  
I don't know if the prob. is with the trimpot or if this tells you what my problem may be but it seems it's close to working . I just can't believe I've had problems with such a Simple circuit(but I guess NO circuit is ever completely simple)
