From the same guy on synth-diy that suggested Fry's paper:

"I've discovered pretty much the perfect "touch up" pen
for etching PCBs- it's a super-fine point paint
marker. The brand I'm using is Edding- I bought them
in germany, but I've seen them in the US as well. This
paint marker has a plastic tip, not the fibrous tip
that most paint markers have. Color doesn't seem to
matter- I've used yellow, white, blue, & green in my
testing. It holds up _MUCH_ better than a sharpie or
standard etch resist marker, from what I can tell, and
it wipes off nicely with turpentine (which I use to
remove the toner.)
I've even used them to draw simple boards and they
came out fine."

I use Staedtler Lumocolor Permanent markers. I find they work quite well, they are also really fine tipped (never even used the super-fine one..), and they last a lot longer than sharpies. They are a bit more expensive though. In the US and Canada, you can get them at almost any office supply store.

I've had good luck using a regular fine-tip 'Sharpie' permanent marker.  I just retrace several times to get a good solid coating of ink before etching.

As for the "Industrial, Chemically Resistant" Sharpie, avoid it like the plague.  My experience has been that they actually work WORSE than the regular garden-variety Sharpie that you can buy at any office supply store...and they're more expensive.

I've used the Lumocolor successfully. Plus (a BIG plus!) you can get it in AUstralia :D

Dragonfly

yep...i suggested that in a thread a while back....it works WAY better than a normal sharpie.  :D

I couldn't agree more, I love the staedtler ones, but the problem is that they work less effectively when it's a big area. For those, I just put a base coat of staedtler pens, then thick sharpie on top of that!

Amazingly enough, I just remembered this! You can also use Nailpolish...This stuff works wonders!!!

Cheers, and sorry about the double post
