An external bypass pedal system?

Anyone know what the default wiring is for a single guitar amp channel switching pedal? Does the switch just connect the tip and the sleeve of the plug or does it have some electronics included in it?

And if it's connected, it controls a relay that switches channels?

Are my assumptions correct?

Almost all are a mono cord with the footswitch connecting tip and sleeve.

While some control a relay, others do it with LED/LDRs, JFETs, etc. There is no standardization that I know of.

Any non-relay switching circuits on the net?

If you're going to mess with channel switching inside your amp, you owe it to yourself to get and read "The Ulitimate Tone" by Kevin O'Connor. It covers amp channel switching and switching techniques extensively.

I'm not going to use it in an amp. I'm going to use it for my analogue multieffect pedal project that is going too large for stomping. I thought that a bypass with an external pedal would be suitable.

Ah. In that case, you want to read GEO.

Try "The Technology of Bypasses" and the two or three remote bypassing footswitching articles.

In general, you're going to be happier with relay switching because it's simpler to understand and apply unless you just have something against relays.

My favorite is the NEC model EA2 relay, $2.50 at Mouser.

Thanks for the part number RG. I have been wanting somone to endorse a relay for sometime now.

When I go to Mouser and enter the part number I get a page of about ten different relays. Is this the specific one you're referring to? http://www.mouser.com/index.cfm?handler=displayproduct&lstdispproductid=351538

I see latchig relays and DPDT relays (although some aren't carried by Mouser -- special order I imagine) too which was more what I was thinking since I also have an extensive bypass system in mind.

Thanks,
John

Ok, thanks, I'll use a relay then.

Anyone know where to put the relay supply in the Tube Driver circuit? just after rectifying?
