Ibanez SM-9 pops when bypassed

I just got a cheap Ibanez SM-9 pedal that crackled and popped when bypassed. When I opened it up, the leads going to the switch were frayed and only attached to the switch by a few strands of the wire.

So I stripped off the ends and reattached them. The crackling stopped, but now there's still an audible "pop" whenever the pedal is bypassed.

Any ideas as to what would cause this? I have another switch I could try installing...would that make a difference, or is it more likely that it's something in the bypass circuitry?

There may be one on the circuit, not sure but if not try the 1M pulldown resistors on input/output just before the jack itself.
That should stop any switch "pops" !
otherwise could be a "duff" flip/flop switching JFET
or indeed the switch itself, try that first as its quick  ?
