In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

Jolly good idea R.G., I've been on the edge of it for a bit and it's time for action.

All you really have to do is follow through with premeditated lieing and cheating...other than the karma that goes along with that, and makes it totally not worthwhile...you can consider them "FREE"...[right...not].
 Consider yourself warned...I can't say I blame you...I too got 'freebies' this way...
 I just hated that aftertaste of having to lie to someone who JUST asked to be told the truth [not in so many words...but definitively]...not going to bite on that chew anymore...bad karma can be very hard to get rid of once you've been explicitely warned about it.

I just got a Free Vactrol and 5 BS250's from Newark In One. I didn't know it was possible to get these but here is how it happened:

I put in an order at like 10:00PM and just as I pressed "submit" I realized that I forgot to order the above parts. I tired their online help and then tried to call but both messages said that they were closed. I called within one minute of opening and this woman said that "the order is complete" and I said "is it boxed and shipped already?" She said "I SAID it is complete". I then sent an E-mail saying that I found it hard to beleive that with nobody working a night shift that somehow my order got boxed and shipped between the hours of 10:00PM and 8:01AM. I added that I order often and promote them to other people all the time and I didn't want to pay shipping and the "under $25 fee" for a couple of dollars worth of parts.
I then got an E-mail saying that they can't add to any orders after they are complete but if I give them the part number they'll send the parts free of charge and free of shipping charge. I, of course, added the vactrol at this point but the BS250's were the real reason for the e-mail.

      Newark in One has been awesome to me. They even put Mouser to shame with there individual packing. Even 1 resistor will be in it's own box. Every part is in it's own box, anti-static bag and soft cloth foam. This was the only thing that was ever negative in any way (not even really negative) and they made up for it. Awesome place!

last time I ordered "samples", I paid about 230$ for shipping;
after the bank-transfer (which took about 10 days...) for the paid-in-advance chips was finished, the goodies arrived 36 hours later...

half a year later, R&D/prototyping was finished - BIG order followed: everybody happy!

who says is wrong and unethical?  The companies don't say anything against DIYers in their terms - many even have "student" as a choice for ocupation.  I've never lied about my motives to get samples.

Isn't that the point of samples, to get their product out there.  I don't _just_ use them to make clones, I am the future engineer of america...who knows where I'll be working 10 years from now and maybe TI's $10 spent on me will turn into thousands.  Becuase I'm loyal to them.

As I said, I've never lied about my motives.  I _have_ been turned down, but thats fine.  I've also gotten some good stuff.  And some bad stuff.
