There are two soundclips, the first regular, the second with the envelope control mod. Does the schem there have the envelope control mod on it, or not? I got confused by the fact that the mod is mentioned, but there is only one schem.

Can anyone clarify this for me? I can't seem to find two schems to compare (one w/ envelope control, one w/o).

Ane yes, I am a newb.

The LED/LDR(or Vactrol) combo is the Envelope Control. It gives a cool wah sound. If you don't want the wah sound, you just turn the control to zero. I've got lots of UF samples on my site.

I've been listening to the samples you've been posting over the past few weeks, & the sounds you get really make me want to build one. I hadn't commented on each individual one, but I thought it was time you knew that they were really a good selling point!

Okay, that's what I thought, but since there was a separate sound clip for the "mod," I wasn't sure what was going on. I also figured for such a cool sounding pedal, it seemed overly simple, and that the mod MUST be beyond that. The PCB that somebody posted here is ridiculously small, so I figured there was more to it. Much to my surprise, no.

Thanks for the help.

Okay, so for all of the times that I went to Tim's Circuit Snippets page, I never closely read the description. Well, not since I could have understood it.

Reading what P3 does, it makes sense. I thought that the original pedal had a pot for the frequency, and the modded one used the volume for its frequency. I see now that the frequency pot is still used. The mod just allows you to change that using the signal's volume, and adjust how much that changes using P3.

That was a terrible explanation I just made there. But that's not the point; I understand it now. Now, to make sure I understand it using overcomplicated algebra.

Frequency of LFO = Frequency pot setting + ( Z*Volume ) where Z is the resistance of P3.

If Z = 0, then the volume will have no effect.

If Z is high, then you get an envelope-controlled oscillator running somewhere above the value of the frequency pot.

SO you get the maximum amount of headroom from the envelope when the frequency pot is low, and P3 is high, right?

I think I get this, but just want to make sure.

And thanks again.

There is another mod floating around, and samples to it. I believe it says something like "Uglyface mods herein". It adds a pot and wires to an unused pin to give you a sort of bagpipe background to your single notes. it's really cool. I haven't done mine like that yet, but there's not much to it, and he has a schematic drawn up. Do a search if your interested, and if you don't find it, let me know, because I have it. Build this circuit!

Thanks, found it.

I remembered seeing it not long ago. Sounds cool. Although I'm probably getting a digitech whammy soon, anyway, so I'll be able to bagpipe it up anyway!

It seems the that the uglyface has been ridiculously popular around here lately. Thanks, Tim!
