Adding a distortion section to an orange squeeze?

I'm thinking about building an orange squeeze compressor based on the schematic on generalguitargadgets.com.

Is the output high  enough from the ompamp that I could get distortion out of the same box just by putting clipping diodes in it either in the feedback loop from the output to the inverting input or from the output to ground?  Would it mess up the compression effect if i did this?  And would it act as a gain control if i made R9 a 500k pot?

I won't say the OS can't be used for distortion, but I would suggest using it for a *distortion* effect might be missing the point a bit. Seeing as the classic examples of the OS in action often cited are Dire Straits "Sultans Of Swing" and various Steely Dan tracks, you might want to explore what it has to offer for clean sounds before you put tits on that bull. You may want to look at maybe the Sparkleboost w/ clippings diodes, and drive that with the OS. Or the OS can be setup to smack the snot out of the input of a tube amp, and that might be your best bet if you want distortion from it.
