lo all,
The only reason i havent ordered from steve is he doesnt seem to sell 1/4w 1% metal film resistors...its a shame, coz his prices are great, and shipping is so much cheaper than mouser...

I don't believe 1/4W metal films are exactly necessary. I don't know why he doesn't carry any, of them, but for me, I find the ones he has to be fine.

hmm, i guess, but im sure i can hear a difference in noise level, and i HATE noise!

I don't believe there is a noise difference between a 1% metal film and a 5% metal film.

Alpha579

hmm, does he stock 5% metal films...i thought they were carbon comps...andway, im under the impression that (theoretically) the lower the tolerance, the lower the noise...or that could be wrong... :?

The tolerance just tells how close the actual value will be to the stated value but it have no connection with thermal noise. :D That's wrapped up in the technology.

Check out the faq at Aiken Amps' tech page for the lowdown on resistor composition and noise.

Glad I could help.  Actually, I should have posted the full URL, but I was in a rush to get out of the office on Friday.  So, for those who haven't found it yet, amidst all the other great stuff:

BTW, Randy Aiken is a great guy, very helpful with amp stuff, and his amp have a great reputation.
