Hey I have a question for you guys.  You seem to be full of knowledge, so my question is to you.  I have the morley tremonti wah which i very much love.  The feature that makes it real nice is that as soon as you step of, it deactivates (or is no longer on).  Is there anyway to create that same circuitry for regular effects or even so that when you have an effect you could add another pot which selects the time that the effect would stay on example step on the switch and effect stays on for 20 seconds.  just a thought

Sure, no prob. Just use the same circuitry that Morley uses. They have a lot of stuff up on their site, including schematics for the auto-switching wahs.
Dunlop uses a similar schem - even though the wah uses a pot, switching is still optical.
Have a look at the Morley site. There's versions that include a trimpot to set switching delay. You may need to radically increase a cap near there to get 20s though.

If you switch electronically, there's nothing you can't do. A variable oscillator and a counter will get you a settable delay, f'rinstance. Some more logic can do more complex things.
