With all the interest (thanks to Torchy) in vero (strip) boards, I thought I'd throw a couple of links up for those who'd like to try it themselves. The first is a primer that has a worksheet that you can print up for getting the layout straight. The second link is a vero board layout tool you can download.

EDIT: Here's the MS Paint layouts people were asking about. Thanks to Gotdabluz for this one.

Just like making pcb's or perf, there's plenty of ways to do layouts. If anyone else has some links, throw them up. We'll get everybody doing vero, that should piss off some unknown person!

This stripboard tool looks very promising, i will try it.

Built so far: PNP FuzzFace, MXR Dynacomp, EA Tremolo, AMZ Mosfet Boost, AMZ Super Buffer, Blue Magic, Peppermill, RM Axis Face, Sparkle Boost, BSIABII, ROG Ruby, AMZ Mini Booster, MXR Phase 45 Univibe, Tremulus Lune, Dallas Rangemaster, Ross Comp

Interesting! I could get used to it very fast. It would be very interesting to have patterns for transistors and DIP8/14/16 ICs, so you can move them as a whole. Very easy to use indeed! Thanks for the links.

hilbi

yes the tool looks very useful, only the amount of componenets is somewhat limted (should be a matter of time) and I wish you could change the veroboard to a horizontal board.

Anyone know of a version to run on mac OSX ?
At the moment they are hard to do, I'm "cutting" and "pasting" from existing layout .gifs in Photoshop to make up new ones ! Its a PITA !!

Thanks,
Marty. 8)

Well the download went fast.
I get the stripboard layout tool 'map' page to come up...that's about it tho...can't seem to get it to work, no parts . Who knows.

I just downloaded the "board" and the extra "components" to my "GoodLady's" PC laptop .... and open it in ms-paint.....
Its very easy to "grab & drop" the parts into place, just follow that little
"Graphic movie" instruction about drawing "lines" as connections first
then making the pasted part "see through" after ..... FAB from here...

So there will be a few more "vero-layouts" coming next week guys  :D
( but perhaps not as prolific as Torchy's !! )

Cheers,
Marty.

You 'open in paint ?']
Hmm I get the stripboard screen, and have file, edit etc. but I can't figure out how to draw a line, don't see any components.
I also [blind me] don't see 'extra components' download...
On the right side of the screen there's a 'Trace section, over the box it says 'label' the button to the right of the box says 'set'...I don't understand the terms or funcion...
Under that [also to the right] it has a section 'components' ... 'type and 'label' as headers over that type-in box

Pete, both the "Board" picture and the "extra components" are at the bottom of that page/tutorial.
The "Board" also has components bottom&left of it, which can be "CTRL" clicked on and copied over the board- line up the "holes" surrounding them with the board holes when you drop it on.
There's a little box left wich makes them "see through" so they now look real "neat" on the board like Torchy's layouts.
This is all done inside "ms-paint" ie: draw lines/jumpers with the "pen" tool  etc etc.
I'm pretty "crap" with drawing programs, but this looks very easy to handle.  :D
Try that out and see how you get on.... BTW I've only used it for 5 mins so I'm no "expert" yet !!!!

Regards,
Marty.

I think Pete's talking about the vero layout program. Pete, go to "file", click "new". A pop up will ask you to set the amount of lines. Do that, and the grid shows up. Then click on any strip (it will turn red) and the green plus sign at the top will light up, and click on that to pick components and values. You can label them and move them up, down, right, and left. The socket can be added to make anything from a tranny to a 20 pin IC. Under "view" you can choose to see the labels, or the "flow" which helps you check if you're accurate with the schematic. The strips run vertical, but it's not set in stone that they have to be horizontal for a layout.

You can also go to "open", and check out the PNP Fuzz layout that's in there. They left the 22uf cap off the board, but you get the general idea. Check it out with the flow option, and the layout "clicks" with the schematic.

The printable grid sheet on the turtorial link is probably a good start for a layout. Print one up, and do a rough layout first. The layout tool is a nice alternative to the MS Paint method.

OK !!! Seems to work pretty good, I've got stuff on the board  !!!
Is there an easy way to rotate 1/4 turn the whole board so the strips are going across the screen horizontally ?? I'm much more used to left to right layout reading and writing.
