Ruby sounds bad!!! Help!!!

I just build a Ruby and tried it with an 8Ohm guitarspeaker. The result was a very distorted dull kinda misbiased sound. So I rechecked all the wiring and solderjoints and hooked it up to different speakers and everytime that bad sound.  But as I plugged in my headphone (32Ohms) it suddenly sounded good and clean.
Any ideas anyone???

Have you checked your battery? Mine makes strange noises if the battery is at anything less than 8.5v. With an adapter it is fine.
