What Effects To Use?

Just looking for suggestions!
I have a 15 1\2" Wide X 9" deep sloped box that I am going to put at least 3 effects inside along with my new digital volume control and ultra clean power suppy(which will be isolated of course).

I am looking for an overdrive(clean to high gain), a smooth fuzz (cleanish to real fuzzy, but not real distorted).

I will also be incorporating my small stone phaser in this box.
I am tired of all the pedals and hookups when I play out live, so it would be much easier with one box.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Thanks!

I would use a Big Muff style fuzz with your description and a Shaka Bradah III or AMZ overdrive pro or something as overdrive....
I think there could be fit more in the box.

I found out the same thing... :icon_evil:
 Ins/outs/ supplies/cables/troubleshooting...
The more you pack in the fewer jacks/plugs/cables you need, and the less flexible it will be...as far as effects order...something to think about.
This is tricky business IMO, a 4pdt or better might help me figure it out...
When I just boost, I want the booster to have very little HF Rolloff, when I add fuzz after, I would like more HF Rolloff, but at the beginning, like in the booster...this can be made adjustable and adjusted for, but my druthers would like to be able to hit just one switch and go from perfect' boost to the exact fuzz voicing I find I like, which means rolloff of highs early on in the chain.
Another way to do this is wire the 'perfect fuzz for one side of a bypass switch, wire a 'perfect boost for the other side, and use another TBP Switch to bypass both...since you're using PS, increased power consumption increase is not a worry.
Substantial pretrials of Fuzz tones, and other circuit 'mating' is recommended before committing anything to your multi box.
I've done a couple multi boxes, and found out there is more to think about and impliment than just throwing a batch of circuits together.
I chose to use effects that 'work well' with others, and this threw out Fuzz Face and circuits that have 'needs' like seeing a guitar as input or don't like boosted up input signals...results and needs vary from one user to the next guitar or amp, perfecting the functions of your multibox may take some doing, you might get lucky and have 'optimal' results without rewiring and remodding...I'm 'particular'...probably moreso since I've tried out so many effects to choose from.
Suffice it to say that trial and redesign has been a big part of figuring out my multiboxes....keeping noise down, getting rid of that phaser click' that appeared, having all the switches go from 'x' sound to 'y' sound with no further adjustment than hitting one switch...
All that said, I choose circuits like Liquid Drive, or BMP, both are Neg Gnd., and seem to not mind other circuits in their chain like FF, TB, Tycho, etc.

I probably typed more about effects not working well together than is necessary, also, so many variables pop up when doing this that all of that may or may not even matter...
A fair amount of retrial of circuit chains is recommended though..replacing this one for that one, modding that one, doing something that makes the boost 'work right' to get serious Fuzz from a distorter...
Hard to say what is relevant with your multibox contemplations...except that contemplation and trials are probably a good idea before 'committing... :icon_rolleyes:

Thanks Steben, I was also thinking about the little muff pi that a friend of mine lent me and I reverse engineered.  It does sound great!  Thanks for the OD ideas also.

Pete,  Thanks for the insight, yeah I also have been thinking about al the particulars for this box.  I was thinking of putting ins and outs for whatever I put in the box and use small patch cables for what I want first, last, etc.. in the chain.  Also switches to bypass all at once and between each one also.  Sometimes I use od with phaser, sometimes I use fuzz with phaser, sometimes each alone.  So I will figure the switches out before I get too far.   I think planning is the hardest part!

Thanks again for the inputs!

Well, one of the good things about line 6 is that their modeller boxes are multi-fx combined by group (distortion, modulation, reverb, ...). That is not a bad idea. Since you use OD with phaser and sometimes fuzz with phaser etc...

So I guess you could stick to two or three boost/distortion circuits. Why not putting a switchable RM in front too. Reminds of the skyripper...

True!  I could put a couple of Od's and fuzzes and able to switch between them, having each preset to what I desire.    ex.  2 fuzzes,  dpdt footswitch to switch between either fuzz and .... I guess there are so many options I must really think it out before I go ahead with this.  Of course all depends on what I need for each song, while playing live...

Peace!

For the overdrive, I suggest you the MXR Zakk Wylde or BSIAB2. I have both here, and they sound great. For the fuzz, go with the Big Muff.

Thanks Marcos for the suggestions.   I think I will most definately use a muff fuzz of some sort.  Still deciding on another fuzz and what to use for od's....

Peace!
