I'm about to build the Maestro Sample and Hold project as posted on GGG.  I noticed on the schematics page of this posted at GGG that it requires 1/2 watt resistors.  Having a good sized stock of 1/4 Watts, and having built many of the EPFM Bipolar powered projects with 1/4 Watts with no problems, I just want to double check if this is truly necessary and why.  Sorry to split hairs here.  I'm holding off on soldering a thing in place until I find out if such a substitution is a safe thing to do.  Thanks!

The reason for calling for 1/2W reisitors is that it is a project requiring a bipolar 9v power supply, for a total of 18v.  You would want more robust resistors and capacitors than for a 9v circuit.  That said, I haven't gone through the math to determine the power consumption of all of the parts to see if 1/2W is absolutely necessary...if nothing else, it is a very good idea to make sure that nothing burns up.

I built it with mostly 1/2w resistors, although I did sub a few 1/4w when I didn't have the correct value 1/2w and it works great.  What a fantastic pedal...along similar lines, I cannot recommend the Maestro Ring Modulator project from GGG enough.  I am in love with that circuit right now.

Thanks for the insight.  I love Ring Modulation.  I'll have to check that one out.  I always liked Anderton one from EPFM.  It really makes the dogs in my neighborhood angry.

If any resistor is more than 1.3K, then no matter what happens 18V can't make it dissapate more than 1/4 watt (if my maths is right).
So I wouldn't mind using 1/4 watt resistors.
Back then, it was much easier to get 1/2W, so they were often specified by default.
