How do I get "the sound"???

OK...other than the obvious (tube amp)...I'd love to put together the puzzle pieces to get the signature guitar sound of Big Brother and the Holding Co.
Specifically listen to Ball & Chain on the Cheap Thrills album (come on...EVERYONE owns this album!
It sends chills up my spine every time I hear it!

Tha's actually "tube amp with reverb" and huge.
 Huge part of that sound...I love that stuff...all raw, with 'mistakes' in it...not studio/perfected/filtered/compressed/digitally doctored...got flaws that make it sound like Real Art !!! Love it.
 I'da haftsta Saya...BMP got used in there somewhere...they had the nastiest Fuzz introductions !!!
  Now...mind you I get the Holding Company and Cosmic Blues mixed up...she and her band were on PBS the other night...I just like Freaqued ! ! !  Super Show. Bug NAsty Tubey Distortions...very powerful Stuff...
