right, i want to use a millenium bypass on a pedal, in the article on geofex it says to use the collector and base of a 2n.... transistor, which way round to i wire it up?

OK, let's think for a minute.

Diodes are PN junctions. Current flows when the P side is made positive and the N side made negative. And the schematic symbol is conveniently an arrow pointing in the direction current will flow. The arrow/P side is the Anode (anode... arrow!) and the bar/band side is the cathode.

If we use an NPN transistor, and we cut off the emitter lead, we have an NPx device. Hey! That looks like a diode! If we use the P base lead as the arrow/anode and the N collector side as the band/bar side, it does indeed work as a diode.

So hook it up with the base lead as the arrow and the collector as the bar.
