Hmmmm ... noticed many order from them and I've only ordered caps ( Panasonic Metal Film ) from Digikey...

What are the key areas of difference between the two companies ???

Just curious ... haven't oredered from mouser yet but I'm sure I will ...

Supply, price and minimums.  They don't both have the same products, so while you can get certain cap values in both places, both won't necessarily carry the same manufacturers's products.  Prices may differ between the two.  And minimums will probably differ -- where one lets you order parts one at a time, the other may have minimums you have to meet.

I like mouser -- I like their shopping cart, the BOM feature, and the speed of service (I usually get my order in 2-3 days, without paying for expedited service).  But I have to compromise on certain parts or order those parts from DigiKey (like the panasonic caps -- I don't think Mouser carries them).

I suggest you order from both until you develop a preference.  And if you do hit minimum limits, find other people to lump their orders in with you so you can both save on shipping and avoid getting too many extras...or just order the minimums and wallow in the ability to constantly build new things :-)

I used to work for Newark, but I hate their site and never order from them...and I promise, it's not sheer bitterness :-)

Digikey is good for ICs, transistors, and other electronic parts. Mouser is better for hardware like switches and pots. Service-wise both are very good and have given me great service including contacting/responding when there are issues. I like the Digikey site much better. Far easier to order then Mouser.

If you are in the states then Mouser might be a better option for basic pedal stuff since Digikey lacks in some of the basic stompboxer's needs. If your outside the U.S. you'll get raped by using Mouser. Its not Mouser's fault but the taxes and duties. Digikey is great shipping world wide. No surprise charges as they are international. Mouser takes a few days to get to me while Digikey is next day without any upgraded shipping service.

Both have ups and downs in terms of prices. If I lived in the U.S. I would use a combination of both since neither carries everything I need. Right now I'm a Digikey fan.

Because you live in Canada I would recommend using Digikey, they are fast at shipping and it won't cost you a lot.  For other parts there's http://www.rpelectronics.com  or http://www.smallbearelec.com.  Small bear will usually have all the parts you need in one place, but shipping will probably be two or three weeks.

Mouser is 2 hours from my house.   If I order at 9am, it usually comes the same day or next day :)
