Does anyone know of a good deal on a Xytronic 136ESD soldering station besides Circuit Specialists?  Theirs are $59, but they are out of stock for a couple weeks.

Me growing impatient for a new soldering rig.  ;)

you'll get 400+ hits & probably decide to wait for Circuit Secialist :D

Unless your heart's set on the 136ESD, the Auto Temp 379UL is also a great unit. I've been using one for quite awhile, and couldn't be happier with it's performance.

It's great to see so many people happy with the Xytronic stuff.. I'm actually excited to see how much better it is than my simple weller iron that I've used for 2 years.  By now the tip is nasty and black, bent, and wobbles back and forth in the iron.  Soon it will meet its ultimate fate.... the waste basket

go with circuit specialists, if you throw down 50 or more you get a free multimeter too.  very nice if youre a poor teenager like me with no job who is also trying to fund a work-in-progress guitar and nurture an increasingly massive collection of cds(i dont advocate stealing music) and band t-shirts :D

ive been using a 5.99 iron from sears hardware for about 2 years now, and the tip is crusty and black and covered actually bends out of shape when it heats up.  im saving up for that same iron, and im gonna get some of that 63/37 solder too while im at it...i cant wait because my soldering setup now blows.

Hey...You guys have a file? Just file the tip nice and straight, pick up some "tin tip" from your local elec shop etc.., and just reform/tin the tip of your iron (when I'm bored, I do that at school...yes...I'm a pretty bored quite often).

Cheers,

Nish
