I finished my first pedal! I decided to build Tim Escobedo's Idiot Wah and it sounds great! I decided to call it Zebra Wah for some reason. Here are some pics, tell me what you think.

I like it, a nice unique enclosure, not a boring enclosure like mine is. Can I just ask what the thing labelled wah is and does. Well I'm assuming it controls the wah, is it a light sensor or something?

Same questions as robbie..

Cool though..

Nice tatems!  Are we allowed to see a pic of what's up the zebra's arse? :D  That looks like a 1590B-sized enclosure and I was hoping to squeeze an idiot wah and photon filter together in one of those...  with two extra pots...  and a toggle... and two LEDs... hmm... Maybe I should just sell out and throw it in half of an ammo can... I've been planning too many cramped builds lately.  They're fun, but can be rather... "stressful".

Anyway, I have to suggest putting something around that LDR for protection and "crud-control".  A little rubber grommet in the hole or glued on top should work good... Then maybe a bit of plexiglass or something on top of that.  I've mentioned my plans for this thing in a few threads this past month so you may have already seen than and deemed it unnecessary, but in case you haven't... :P

Oh, and robbie, yep, it's a light sensor type of deal, an LDR, which stands for Light Depending Resistor.  They're called "photocells" at ratshack.  In darkness it has a high resistance and in full light it has very low resistance.  Cheap and simple, not to mention horribly cool.  Basically, anywhere you see a pot wired as a variable resistor, you could potentially use an LDR in it's place.  Only thing you gotta worry about is consistency in different light conditions.

I have a sample of a breadboarded idiot wah using an LDR here: //www.geocities.com/nabotics/.  It's kinda bad quality (you can sometimes hear the acoustic sound of the strings in the background due to low recording volume and using a headset mic... :P) and badder playing, just messing around and trying to get used to the backwards sweep of this particular build (it says "AWW" when your foot goes down).  But it'll give you an idea of how well this thing actually performs as a control, and with a little fancy waving of your foot, you can get a much quicker response than a conventional rocker pedal.

Geez, I'm obsessed with this circuit.  Anyone says "Idiot Wah" and I gotta throw in my 2 cents.  Which usually turns into more like 7 cents.

Lol i don't think i could get two circuits in that enclosure. I had trouble trying to get one in! It would be fun though lol.

I was thinking about getting a rubber grommet to put around the ldr or some black cardboard either would do nicely.

I'm starting the phuncgnosis (Another wah lol) and i'm going to try to put it in a pedal enclosure that i'll make. I was thinking of using the 1M sensetvity pot as my pedal control. Should prove to be fun.

Yes it's a photo Light sensor, a very cool idea to put outside

Congrats on the the build - Nice!
