Holy Crap!  That's all I have to say about it ;)

I should've built this thing earlier...what an awesome dirt box!

Pictures coming soon...

Can't wait to see it, if it looks as nice as your other projects on your site.
Glad you like it, Philip.

Oh yeah!! This pedal is sooooo versatile.  I just did this clip last night using the BSIAB2 to push my JCM800.  It's  sooooo mean.

You nailed that Accept tone...

To say that I'm impressed with this circuit would be an understatement, Mr. Guidry ;)  This is the first dirt box that I've actually preferred more than the tube overdrive in my Twin Amp...and that's saying a lot since that overdrive channel is all tube!

Just some general information on my build:

  • Hammond 1590B box.
  • Microfarad-value capacitors are AVX boxed metal film (except 100uF, which is 25V radial electro.).
  • Picofarad-value capacitors are Silver Mica.
  • Resistors are a mix of 5% Carbon Film and 1% Metal Film.  I didn't have some of the values in the 1% Metal Film (120, 390, 5K6 and 82K).
  • The JFETs are 2N5457 as recommended in the schematic and I socketed all 5 just to be safe.
  • Pots are 16mm.
  • Since the reverse polarity diode is in series with the power source, I used a CDSH270 Silicon Shottky, which has a voltage drop of 0.3V...the same as a Germanium diode.

Once again, the best dirt box that I've played through.  It's time for everyone to phase out their Tubescreamers and build this instead ;)

I'm with you man!  I've built 3 so far, all for personal use.

I was just getting ready to etch a BSIAB (first version) should I consider doing BSIAB II in stead? Is there a big difference between the two?

A superb build Philip!  Quality.

I recently built the BSIAB2 (http://www.diystompboxes.com/sboxforum/viewtopic.php?t=31785) and although I am relatively new to this (very addictive) pastime, I am amazed at the sounds I can produce. Just a shame my guitar skills can't do it justice  :(  yet.

As I stated in my post, I get no discernable difference when adjusting the trimpot and was wondering why that might be. I have not yet measured the voltages but may do. The main thing is it works and sounds great.

Anyone planning this build, I can recommend it.

I actually didn't fiddle around with the trimpot at all...I just set the trimpot for 4.0V on the drain of that JFET and it sounded great the first time around. :)

You went with all 2n5457's? That would be a little less gain than the schem that's published, but I bet it still sounds great, probably clearer and tighter. That's the great thing about this circuit, you can try out different fets in different spots and get different tones that way.

phillip

I didn't notice those two J201s in the schematic!  I just saw a couple of the 2N5457s and put them in all 5 positions.

It is a very tight and clear sound...I really like it a lot.  I'll have to dig out the J201s later this evening and try them out! :)

After trying the two J201s, I think I prefer all 2N5457...it has a tighter sound and the tone is a bit brighter overall.

Cool!
It's kinda like a tube amp...you can switch different types for different styles/sounds.
Glad you like it!

Phillip,

What did you use to keep the pots and pcb separate?  I like your layout in the small box.  Are they attached via silicone adhesive?

Thanks,

Scott

phillip

I used double-sided foam tape to stick the PCB to the backs of the pots.  That tape is really sticky so it'll stay stuck for a long time ;)

Great.  Thanks.

where can I find more info on this build? The clips sound great! :)
