Fuzz Pot On The FF

I am redesigning the Bear Face, so I visited the old problem of "bunching up" in the 1K linear "fuzz" pot. I find that if I put a 1K audio taper in there but with the hot and cold ends reversed, the control of fuzz is perfect, but it goes in the wrong direction.

Has anyone else tried this? Is the solution here a 1K reverse-audio taper pot? Am I thinking straight? If so, I could ask Alpha to make such a pot.

I've always thought that a 1K reverse audio taper pot would cure the Fuzz Face's problem of all the fuzz being bunched up at the end of the pot's rotation...like it does in the Distortion +/OD250.

If it works a lot better with a backwards-wired audio taper pot, then it should work just as well with a reverse audio taper pot...and it'll work in the right direction ;)

Phil--

I will ask them to make me a couple of samples. If they already have the wafers available (?), I'm sure they will do it as I have some credibility there. Will let you know.

I've been keeping my eye open for a 1KC pot for a year or two now, but haven't found anything that small in the reverse audio taper...I think it would be a much welcome addition!

I'm tired of all my Fuzz Faces (and ToneBender MKIIs) having all their fuzz bunched up in the last 80%! ;)

I always use a 1k linear pot with a 220ohm resistor in parallel with one half of the pot, that solves some of the bunching, though I usually just crank the fuzz and control things with the guitar's volume knob.

What I would like to see is that strange "S" taper in a 20k pot for the TS tone control.

I have always considered the Fuzz control on the FF tits on a bull, and leave it fully clockwise*. But I wired up the fuzz/gain knob on my Tripple Fuzz backwards and decided I like it that way. Instead of a *Fuzz* knob, It's a *clean* control. I like to call it the sanity control, going from zero to edge of. So I found I can get used to a reversed control easily enough. But I agree with "cd" that if you are going to petition Alpha for something, the TS tone pot would probably be a better seller.

I suppose a 2k2 linear, tapered with a resistor across one side has been considered or tried...[?].

Pete, after our "Fuzz pot" chat yesterday, I had good results with a 4k7lin
pot and a 3k3 lugs 1-2 and 3k3 lugs 2-3  nice "even" travel on that, which
I think is giving me about 2k in total !
Some reverse audio for FF and TS would be great though  :D

Thanks, Steve
