Anyway

http://www.banzaieffects.com they arent UK based but are one of the few places in europe that cater to the DIY stomp community.

I am in the UK and get most of my IC's trannies and enclosures from http://www.smallbearelec.com its cheaper than banzai and has everything  I need, although based in the states and he has a backlog of about 2 weeks.

http://www.maplin.co.uk <---for generic electronic stuff in UK

http://www.rshelectronics.com <--very cheap for resistors caps IC sockets have lots of grab bag deals. various trannies etc.

http://www.futurlec.co.uk Havent tried them but some recommend some say they have had delayed shipments.

Ofcourse Aron has J201's for sale, and at a really good price.

Thats about it I am afraid. Smallbear elec is your one stop shop for everything stomp box related and reasonably priced.
Being in the UK the strength of the pound (or the weakness of the dollar) ordering from across the pond turns out very cheap, cheaper than buying the parts here even with delivery.

thank you nelson, and its not cirtch, and ive tried maplins, but i am attemping to be cheap and not pay ten different shipping charges.

This time

me again, does anyone know if there is a difference between the different components by different companies, for example, the J201 from fairchild or silconix

Don't know what components you're after but I tend to use the following for most things:

www.esr.co.uk

www.rapidelectronics.co.uk

esr sell footswitches and boxes too (phone and ask).

You can also get switches, jacks and DC jacks from www.monkeyfx.co.uk

I get quite a lot of my components from Farnells (Check out the J201's here http://uk.farnell.com/jsp/endecaSearch/searchPage2.jsp?OrgTT=j201&Nty=1&N=1003990+401&=gensearch&No=0&Ntt=j201&Ntk=gensearch&comSearch=true) Who I think have a minimum order of 10GBP for free delivery.

They have huge stocks, confusingly so sometimes when trying to navigate your way around the website.

Certainly worth checking out though.

In my opinion, no difference.
The thing is, the components have to meet the data sheet specs.
Where you get problems, is with more complex things (like op amps) where, although the products from 2 companies both meet the data sheet specifications, the chip is beign used "outside" the intended range (low voltage, something weird connected to a compensation pin) so a difference is found. That is exceedingly unusual though.
