Danelectro Cool Cat Chorus is distorted

As the title says, my Cool cat is distorted/fuzzy.

Although it does do the chorus properly, there is the slight fuzz overtop of it.  I've tried different guitars and amps and it's the same with everything.

Where should I check and what could this possibly be?

If you're using a battery, make sure that it's fresh.

yeah I've tried changing battery's....maybe I'll have to try a power supply....
